RIP Weinies

On Thursday, August 27, at around 11:00 pm, we put Ginger (aka Weiners, aka Weinies, aka Weeps) to sleep. She was less than a month shy of being 15. Earlier that night, she had a seizure. We took her to a 24 hour emergency vet clinic to put her to sleep. Kristin and I rubbed her head while my mom held her. She died peacefully, and she is no longer in pain. We brought her body home. Erin was able to make it for her burial at 1:30 am. (Kristin and I were not present.)

Weinies lived a good life and loved her family. She enjoyed playing with the cats and sunbathing. She is no longer in pain and continues bathe in the sun in doggy heaven. Rest in Peace Weiner Girl!

"What's Meant to Be Will Always Find a Way"

In case you haven't heard, we accepted an offer on our house! Here's the story behind it:

Last Tuesday, we got a voice message out of the blue from our realtor saying that we had an offer. This was exciting news because we were had become quite frustrated and a little bitter at the progess the sale of our home had made. The couple who put an offer on our house had been looking at the house for almost a month. They looked at it three times and really fell in love with the yard.

When we saw the offer, we were a little disappointed and countered for a little more. We needed a certain amount to put a downpayment on another house. We were really struggling with what to do because they were going to pay in all cash so the odds of it going through were (are) good. On Saturday, we found out that they rejected our counteroffer. It was so frustrating, and we really started to second guess ourselves about not accepting it. We crunched some numbers and figured out a way to accept the original offer. The message was relayed to their realtor that we would accept their original offer, if they resubmitted it. So the waiting game began once again...

Tonight, we found out that they decided to put in the offer again. (We were really worried that they weren't going to. We've spent a lot of time praying that everything would work out.) When our realtor walked through the door, he said, "Well, I have better news." They changed the original offer. They added the exact amount that we need to feel comfortable with buying our new home. It was an answer to our prayers!

We are so thankful that things are working out. This is yet another example that things don't always go according to our time table. Right now, we have plans to live in an apartment for at least a month until we can get into another house, because we have to be out in less than two weeks. It is stressful with school and soccer starting, but it will be okay. We have truly been blessed.

Tidbits of Our Life

Our summer is quickly coming to an end. Doug started soccer last week with doubles. He is looking forward to another great season. This week, he has a literacy training all week. So, basically, he is back to work; however, I have a training this week too, so he gets to miss one day of his training to stay home with the chillins'. He also finished two classes for his masters and now gets a two week break. This is extremely exciting for him because this is the only break he gets all year long. At Walden, classes always end on a Sunday and start the following Monday. He has continued his straight "A" streak.

I finished all of my classes for the summer and am going to take a break for a little while. This week, I am finally beginning one of my summer projects-- getting our pictures developed. At last count, we had well over 1000 pictures to print. Yikes! I also FINALLY found an album for Braelyn. First, I need to finish Madi's, but the only thing that is missing from hers are the pictures. (Just a minor detail. )

Madi is growing and becoming everso feisty. She is definitely reaching the terrible two's. Madi said the word "otter" today. It was incredibly cute. She has been watching this new DVD that has puppets, pictures, and video clips of animals. Now, she loves the otters. I know that next spring she'll love the sea lions down in Newport. Additionally, she has begun counting. The other day, she grabbed two of her sippy cups. She said, "Two babas." It was the cutest thing.

Braelyn is also getting big. She is getting great at rolling over, except she gets stuck and can't roll back over. She is also really good at screaming. It is so high pitched; she sounds like a whistling pete. These screams are not out of sadness but rather how she expresses her happiness. This is how she wakes up in the morning. Her smile is the cutest too. Whenever she smiles back at one of us, she acts all coy with her crooked little smile.

Madi is a terrific big sister. She always wants to play with baby. How did we ever get so lucky?
Papa is pushing her in her new "Madi Mobile." Papa and Grandma surprised her with this while camping. Braelyn got too long for her infant bathtub. This is her new ducky one. Madi was helping daddy give Braelyn a bath. She was generous enough to share her toys with baby. Braelyn loved it.

Braelyn after her first "ducky" bath.

I have NO IDEA how Julian fit in Madi's house, but Madi loved the company.

My Rant

I usually try to post things that are positive and upbeat because nobody wants to read the woes of a Debbie Downer, but this time I can't resist. I went into work today to drop off a bunch of school supplies that I bought. Upon walking into my classroom, I practically pooped my pants. Everything was completely messed up and not how I left it at all. My book shelf was empty: all of my books and lesson plans were lying in piles on my desk. One may not think that this is a big deal. But I am a neat freak at work. Anal is a better description. Everything is planned out and organized. I never leave work until my desk is neatly arranged and things are ready to go for the next day. That is just who I am, and EVERYONE who I work with knows this about me.

Then I went to set up my computer. All of my computer stuff had been moved across the room, and when I went to get the tower, it was gone! MISSING! I have no clue where it is. All I have to say is that I will cry like a baby in the fetal position if something happened to it. I am really hoping that our tech guy has it, or I have 5 years of lesson plans gone!

Next, as I was rearranging some things, I noticed there was broken glass on the counter. Our building is getting re-roofed and maybe the roofers accidentally broke a window? What a mess! So my 20 minutes trip to school took 2 hours. I am so glad, however, that I came in early to find this disaster.

Sesame Street Cupcakes

Madi's second birthday party is in the works. She is going to have an Elmo themed party this year. We were trying to find inexpensive ways to make either an Elmo cake or cupcakes. Finally, I thought of using M&Ms. I didn't know how this would work out; last night, we did a trial run. Originally, we were just going to make Elmo, but once we got going, we got a little more into it.
I made a heart cupcake for Doug.
Civil War Cupcakes: Although I am not a Duck fan, I love harassing him.

These are the Sesame Street characters that I made. From left to right: Oscar, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Grover, Big Bird, and Ernie.

Braelyn is getting big!

Yesterday I also made Madi some dirt pudding. She wasn't too sure of the worm at first.

Shopping Spree

Today we were sitting around the house, and I asked Doug if he wanted to go shopping. His jaw dropped as he looked at me. It was almost as if I had told him we had won the lottery. Why, you ask? Most people probably already know the answer, but in case you don't: it is because I hate shopping. I have never once, that I can recall, volunteered to head to Woodburn. For someone who is a shopaholic, such as Doug, this was great news. I haven't gone shopping for clothes for three years now. But today we were going to get some school clothes.

Once we arrived, he quickly turned my shopping day into his shopping day. He made out like a bandit. However, I can't complain. I got a sweater and three pairs of shoes. This brings me to my main point. I found the best pair of work out shoes.

For those who don't know, I am a Nike freak! I would live in Nike sweats and a t-shirt if it was possible. It drives Doug nuts. My favorite kind of workout shoes are 360s. They are extremely comfortable, and I currently own four pairs. They only had one pair of 360s that weren't all that thrilling, and I am definitely NOT going to spend $100 on a pair of shoes I don't love. I settled for a women's pair of shoes that I liked, for the most part. As I was getting ready to leave, I perused the isles one last time. I ran into an employee, and here is how the conversation went:

Worker: Are you finding everything okay?

Me: Yep.

Worker: You don't sound very convincing.

Me: Well, you don't have much to choose from in 11.5's. So my selection is limited. I usually get 360s, and I don't like the one you currently have.

Worker: Have you tried the Zoom Vomero 3's? They are light weight and have a lot of cushion. Try on a 12 because each shoe is different.

Me: 12's slip off my feet.

Worker: Just try them on.

After trying them on, I was instantly impressed. I wore them while working out tonight and felt like I was bouncing on air. I think they have replace my love for 360s and are highly recommended. Here is a picture of my snazzy new shoes:
